The Purpose of
SDI's (Spatial Development Initiatives)
The Spatial Development
Initiatives we implemented in 1995. They are programs for development of economic
activities and subsequently the infrastructure necessary for their success in
series of 10 underdeveloped corridors in South Africa. They are different to other projects because
they have a anchor projects like a substantial transport link or a big coal
mining industry nearby, there is close interaction between the state and
private enterprises, firm accent on serving the global market through exports
of goods and services and one of the main reasons is that they are hoping to
improve the lives of those who were seriously disadvantaged during apartheid oppression.
