The Purpose of SDI's (Spatial Development Initiatives)

The Purpose of SDI's (Spatial Development Initiatives)

The Spatial Development Initiatives we implemented in 1995. They are programs for development of economic activities and subsequently the infrastructure necessary for their success in series of 10 underdeveloped corridors in South Africa.  They are different to other projects because they have a anchor projects like a substantial transport link or a big coal mining industry nearby, there is close interaction between the state and private enterprises, firm accent on serving the global market through exports of goods and services and one of the main reasons is that they are hoping to improve the lives of those who were seriously disadvantaged during apartheid oppression.

I think that the project is a great idea to help South Africa to become a better country as a whole. If we start developing the country and we start with the bottom and then move upwards hopefully by the time we get to the top the bottom will have caught up. If we teach them how to make them make their bricks and they complete their own house it will also give them a sense of self pride, something they might not of had in their whole lives. I am really happy that there are projects like this around and I think it is really important that more projects like this are created.
